About Aquaculture Solutions

Our Mission:

At Aquaculture Solutions, our mission is simple. We strive to provide our customers with high-quality, sustainable growing vessels for the aquaculture industry for a fair value, with a product that is 100% made in the USA.

Growing with our tanks versus using bags that are replaced every 2–6 weeks is a significantly more sustainable option. Our tanks can be expected to last over 20 years, and we are proud to say that we have units that remain in service for over 40 years!

Our History:

Aquaculture Solutions, a division of Kalwall Corporation, is family owned and operated, and we are proud to be 100% made in the USA. Founder Robert R. Keller, a fellow of the American Solar Energy Society, had many diverse scientific interests, including chemical formulations, bonding dissimilar materials, architecture, food production and sustainability. While developing face sheets for architectural applications, he identified a market in the aquaculture industry, thus launching Kalwall Corporation’s foray into the shellfish and lobster rearing market.

Our first tanks were in-ocean tanks that had a passive separator, essentially stacked disks. From there, Keller forged the way into the passive solar market, developing thermal storage tanks. Finally, in 1987, we moved into the commercial aquarium market, where we today provide protein skimmers and bio-filters.

What We Do

Our tanks are lightweight, corrosion-free and shatterproof, with UV stability built into the full-body depth of our resin systems.

We strive to provide you with the best value in the industry by offering our tanks at a price per liter of storage. For example, freestanding units range from .59–.73 cents/liter depending on the size.

We work with customers to create custom applications to fit their needs. We understand that standard sizes may not work—and that’s no problem for us! Please contact us if you require custom sizes. We do have standard diameters, but we can accommodate custom diameters because we do not use molds.

Every project is different, but you can expect lead times of 2–6 weeks. We are happy to provide exact lead times if you contact us, as leads very by pending orders/work load.

Who We Service

Aquaculture Solutions has offered a variety of tubes and tanks to serve the aquaculture industry since 1976. Our tanks can be used in both batch processes of a few weeks, such as for shellfish, and semi-continuous batch processes of several months, such as for spirulina.

Fabrication

We construct our algae tanks from our own proprietary light-transmitting fiberglass sheet, Sunlite HP, which we have specifically formulated for maximum light transmittance and durability. We construct each tank individually using these shatterproof faces, with a blend of semi-automation and handcrafting for the best results. We use a semi-automated process to construct the side walls of the tanks to create an accurate distribution of the bonding adhesive. Various components are handcrafted with care for final assembly. Our process includes 100% quality control for water tightness and structural integrity before shipping.

Sunlite

Sunlite HP translucent tanks have ice clear faces and side walls that are over 90% light-transmitting. The fiberglass chop used in our proprietary faces creates a prismatic diffuse light that maximizes growth, and thus, yields, of algae. Shatterproof tank walls are rugged and durable, as well as highly impact-resistant, with an impressive Izod impact rating of 4.89 foot pounds per inch. Tanks are also able to handle thermal shock from 32–350 degrees Fahrenheit!
